Based on what you read in Chapter 9, why is organization so important for speech development?

Human communication

This discussion post requires having read Chapter 9, which helps you think about organizing your speech, and having reviewed the Speech Outline Formatting Guide (posted under Assignment Descriiptions).

The case is true for all discussion posts; you should read the week’s assigned readings first so that you can cite from the readings to support your response. If you are working from the eBook, you can simply cite the chapter and section number (2.1, for example) and an abbreviation of the heading that you got the quotation from, such as (2.1 “Needs and Interests”). You must cite from the textbook to support your answers in all discussion posts, and there should be citations supporting all responses to each question.

Please read over the rubric (it’s the same for all DPs) to ensure that you are adhering to the expectations.

Additionally, do not respond with an attachment. You can (and probably should) type out your response in a different word processor since you likely won’t be working on this all in one sitting. However, the final product should appear directly pasted into the discussion board thread itself. You may title the thread however you like!

Summarize: Based on what you read in Chapter 9, why is organization so important for speech development? This question is intentionally somewhat vague and open-ended, because I’d like to see that you can summarize key information offered in this chapter. Don’t forget to cite throughout!

Apply: Having read the speech outline formatting guide, you know that the main points in your speech include: explaining the problem, explaining a cause or contributing factor to the problem, and a solution that demonstrates how it will actually help address the issue. In the remainder of this post, with as much detail as possible, offer what you anticipate will be your main points. You don’t have to worry about formatting them in this post for right now, but you should be utilizing the outline template to ‘fill in’ your own information in that outline format as you are developing your speech!
