Psychotropic medication – Haldol / haloperidol

 

Students will be assigned a medication (Haldol) to create a handout or tri-fold pamphlet that could be potentially given as a patient education handout to educate the patients on their prescribed medication. Students will then present their handout during a class session in Week 9 or 10 as assigned.

The handout should cover the following information:

 

1.Generic and brand name of medication (Haldol / haloperidol)

2. Indications for medication

3. Any specific directions/ precautions for taking medication (For example: take with food, or other medications (RX or OTC) to avoid when taking this medication, dietary restrictions…)

4. Expected effects/side effects and how to manage them

5. Any potential serious or life-threatening adverse effects of the medication and how to manage them
